The Heart & Soul Effect

The strength and power of music never ceases to amaze me…

I’ve probably mentioned before but I’m very selective with where and when I play out live. I say this coming from a place restraint rather than anything else because I care so deeply about this movement. If and when I do decide to put on or be part of an event, I like to make sure it aligns with my values where possible and has the interest of music, people and experience at the forefront.

I’ve been to too many events that skip the experience and dilute the impact of the music itself and that’s something that I want to avoid. In effect, I want to put on events that I would love to go to myself and explore live music experiences that don’t necessarily exist yet.

It’s been roughly 2 or 3 years since the last Heart & Soul event which was at a different venue on a much smaller and more intimate scale (see below) which at the time I loved. Sadly though, this venue no longer became available to us, which meant finding somewhere else. We didn’t look at finding anywhere new and in all honesty, I thought after 3 very successful events, that would be the end of H&S.

I wanted to keep this vibe but somehow scale it up in a larger venue…

I had been to maybe 2 or 3 events at a local bar in Peckham where I had really enjoyed the atmosphere and DJ setup. From that point on I knew I wanted to one day have a set here so I made it my mission to contact the venue programmers. After much back and forth, I was offered a prime time 4 hour slot on a Friday night (10pm-2am) at a venue called Jumbi which was literal music to my ears.

I spent a solid month or two promoting this event completely off my own back organically, making content and pushing myself to shout about it which in truth I’ve struggled with doing in the past. I’m working on feeling more comfortable talking about and promoting myself to the world, not caring about what people think (hence this whole newsletter haha).

I was not ready for the response!

We had over 250+ recorded ticket sign ups and the venue was packed

Here’s how it went…
